With a three-stroke advantage last week Tuesday, the Whitehall golf team has taken a slight edge over Independence in the race for third-place in the Dairyland Conference golf standings.

The teams from Whitehall and Independence entered last Tuesday’s meet in Arcadia deadlocked for third, but the Norse scored a third-place finish, edging the Indees by three strokes. Whitehall now has a 52-50 lead in the team standings prior to their own home meet, held this week Monday.

The race for first place also got slightly more interesting as Cochrane-Fountain City won for the first time in conference play this season, after finishing second to Eleva-Strum in each of the five previous matches. C-FC topped E-S in non-conference action and remained in play for the DC title should E-S falter down the stretch.

Following Monday’s meet, the teams competed in an 18-hole Dairyland Conference championship match at Trempealeau Mountain on Tuesday.

Both teams will compete in the Luther regional at Drugan’s Castle Mound this coming Tuesday. From there, the top four teams and four individuals who aren’t members of those teams will advance to the Mineral Point sectional the following Wednesday.
