Wildcat boys win opener

Blair-Taylor boys basketball got their season started with a convincing win over Loyal at home on Saturday.

The Wildcats overpowered the Greyhounds, steadily expanding a 10-point halftime lead as the game wore on.

“It was a good first game, but we have things to improve on for sure,” said B-T head coach Randy Storlie.

B-T was scheduled to travel to Eleva-Strum Tuesday night, with their next game being Friday as they host Whitehall.

Despite some early rust that manifested some early turnovers on the offensive end, B-T went into half with a 28-18 lead.

Storlie said he was pleased with how those mistakes were cleaned up as the second half got under way. The Wildcats opened the half on a 26-4 run that left little doubt of the final outcome.

“We just took care of the ball in the second half and took good shots,” Storlie said. “On the defensive end, we did everything right by limiting their good looks at the basket and not allowing any second shots. Our guys played very well and had fun.”

B-T was led by three in double figures in scoring, including Kyle Steien’s 19 points, Cain Fremstad with 11 and Matt Waldera with 10. Rounding out the scoring were Alec Reismann’s eight points, followed by Jaren Swanson with five, Tyler Thompson with four, Garrison Armitage and Daniel Lambright with two each and Evan Nehring with one.

Waldera and Steien also led in rebounds with 15 and 10 respectively.
