Wildcats take down Pirates for big DC win

The Blair-Taylor volleyball team provided a major shakeup in the Dairyland Conference with a 3-1 win over traditional power Cochrane-Fountain City last week.
The Pirates went 9-1 in Dairyland Conference play, including a sweep of Blair-Taylor, before advancing to the sectional round. But, it’s a new year and B-T set the tone early by winning the first two sets and finishing the match in four.
The win put B-T at 8-4 on the season and 2-0 in Dairyland Conference action. The Wildcats played at Augusta on Monday and will head to Eleva-Strum on Thursday. This coming Tuesday the team will take on defending Division Five state champion Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran in Eau Claire.

The match was close, but the Pirates couldn’t match the Wildcats at the net.
B-T was able to feed the ball to junior Chloe Medenblik for 22 kills and senior Andrea Waldera for 17. Both players also had three blocks as they were able to keep C-FC in check.
The Wildcats won the first two sets by identical, 25-22, scores. C-FC won the third by five points then B-T closed the match with its own five-point win.
B-T was active defensively as four players had more than 10 digs. Medenblik led the way with 20, while Alyssa Tubbs added 16, Addison Lejcher, 13 and Waldera finished with 11. Medenblik also tied with Tubbs for the team lead with three aces, while Waldera finished with two.
Lejcher added five kills and both Tubbs and Horton had one for B-T. The setting duties were split as Elissa Smetana led the team with 23 assists and Horton finished with 16.
