Wildcats top Cardinals

The Blair-Taylor baseball team pitched one shutout but lost another game in extra innings last week.

The Wildcats got another strong showing from senior Tavian Shramek, who struck out 15 batters in a 6-0 win over Eleva-Strum last week Tuesday. On Friday, B-T only allowed one earned run, but that came in the bottom of the eighth inning of a 4-3 loss to Whitehall (see story elsewhere in Sports).

Despite the loss, the Wildcats still sit in first place in the Dairyland Conference Small Division with a 7-2 record, they were 8-4-1 overall before Tuesday’s game against Independence/Gilmanton. The Wildcats play at Melrose-Mindoro on Friday and will host Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau next Tuesday.

Blair-Taylor 6 E-S 0

Tavian Shramek was dealing again, striking out 15 of the 23 batters he faced while also going three-for-four with three RBIs.

Shramek was dealing early but wasn’t in position to factor into the decision until he hit a two-run single in the top of the fifth to break a scoreless tie. The Wildcats added two more runs in the sixth as Travis Pettis scored on a groundout and Matthew Beck came home on a passed ball.

Shramek hit another RBI single in the top of the seventh then scored on a hit by Austin Thompson, putting B-T ahead by the final.

The B-T ace allowed just two hits and one walk as he earned the win, pitching into the sixth inning. Travis Pettis got the final out of the sixth then three outs in the seventh as he allowed one hit and got one strikeout in the game.
